Ashoka Fellow of the Month – Katarzyna Szymielewicz
A modified Proust questionnaire or just a few simple but brilliant questions
Ashoka: How would you describe your activity to a 6-year-old child?
Katarzyna Szymielewicz: I am striving for the things people know of you be used the way you want it. And for no one to be able to use that knowledge against you.
A: What quote sustains you?
KS: “Watching isn’t the answer to terrorism for it can’t stop it. Watching is related neither to security nor peace. Watching is the government thing. Watching is the control. Watching lets the watcher to catch the weak moments in every biography of the disobedient people as well as of common citizens” Edward Snowden.
A: Whom you would like to be if you weren’t the person you are?
KS: The traveling reporter.
A: What is your favorite literature character?
KS: Mister Cogito
A: What superpower you would like to have?
KS: I’d like to have the ability, for a little moment, to enter other people’s lives. Not to watch their privacy, but to see the World the way they see it for a spell; to see how they deal with everyday life. How they lull the kid to sleep, where do they hurry, what irritates them and what means nothing to them. I think in that way one can start to take their routine lives easy, but also learn something new.
